Half a year after EPCG Željezara Nikšić officially started working, the Syndicate expects that in the next three months everything could be ready for the start of steel production.

At the end of February of this year, the chains were symbolically removed from the workers’ gate, and after that, in December 2022, EPCG bought Željezara for EUR 20 million from the Turkish Tosjali Group.

The President of the Trade Union EPCG Željezara Nikšić, Ivan Vujović, said that the new company, which operates as part of EPCG, now has around 290 employees.

They regularly receive salaries, they are engaged in the solar power plant, the production of structures, substructures, they are preparing the plant of the Steel Plant for work, and the Forge, as Vujović said, is already ready.

There was no steel production in the Nikšić Ironworks for almost three years. It is necessary to prepare the Steel Plant, prepare the Energana plant, I hope that maybe in three months we could prepare everything for the start of work, but we need to wait to see the budget first, because without it we cannot start working – said Vujović.

And the budget of EUR 6.5 million should be paid to the new company by the parent company EPCG.

He recalled that the business plan stipulated that Željezara would receive EUR 6.5 million from EPCG for the start of operations at the Forge, which was supposed to happen on September 1st.
