The relations between Montenegro and Azerbaijan are good and friendly and there are numerous areas for cooperation that should be used, said the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
As it was announced from the Assembly, he, at the meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Danijela Đurović, particularly emphasized the possibility of gasification of Montenegro, in which Azerbaijan can play a significant role.
The interlocutors agreed that, in order to diversify the Montenegrin economy, it would be extremely important to look at the potential for cooperation in the mentioned area from an expert level, considering that the future of Montenegro in the coming years will depend a lot on it.
Đurović, bearing in mind the great energy importance of Azerbaijan in the geopolitical sense, welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on strategic cooperation in the field of energy between Azerbaijan and the European Commission, by which that country intends to double gas deliveries to Europe by 2027.
She said that she expects gas deliveries to go through Montenegro as well, since it is a member of the TAP project (Adriatic-Ionian Gas Pipeline (IAP branch), which passes through Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
“Emphasizing the good and friendly relations between Montenegro and Azerbaijan, Đurović emphasized that we especially appreciate the contribution of that country to the implementation of valuable infrastructure projects in Montenegro, which additionally affirm the country as a safe and attractive destination for investments,” the statement said.
She particularly emphasized that she is satisfied with the implementation of the Portonovi project, which will be completely completed in the summer of 2021.
“Pointing to the interest in strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism, Đurović expressed her satisfaction regarding the extension of charter flights Baku – Tivat this year”, says the announcement.
She welcomed the signing of the Agreement on Air Services between the governments of Montenegro and Azerbaijan, which creates preconditions for the opening of a direct airline throughout the year, which would enable greater mobility of tourists and businessmen of the two countries.
Đurović reminded that, in the spirit of strengthening friendly relations and with the aim of strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism and increasing tourist traffic, in 2012, Montenegro began to temporarily exempt citizens of Azerbaijan from the need to obtain a visa, so that from 2015, by a unilateral decision of the Government, were allowed to stay up to 90 days without a visa.
