Montenegro is facing a period of intensive modernization and construction of the transport system, announced the State Secretary in the Ministry of Capital Investments, Admir Šahmanović.

At the invitation of the Minister of Transport in the Government of the Czech Republic, Martin Kupka, he participated in the World Transport Forum in Prague. In addition to the representatives of the World Transport Association, the forum brought together officials from the institutions of the European Union (EU), international organizations, academies and other experts in the field of transport.

On the sidelines of the conference, Šahmanović spoke with colleagues from the transport department, both from Europe and beyond, since this event brought together a significant number of transport ministers from all over the world.

“However, as Montenegro is a tourist destination, in certain months of the summer and winter period we have a significant increase in the volume of road traffic, when there are large traffic jams due to the insufficient capacity of the road infrastructure and poorly developed alternative modes of transport,” Šahmanović said in the first part presentations at the conference panel.

In addition to these reasons, as well as the aspiration of Montenegro to maintain the status of an ecological state, there is a need to use other alternative means of transport, i.e. non-motorized means of transport, in order to reduce the negative consequences of traffic expressed in the form of traffic jams, traffic accidents and negative impact on life the middle.

“Considering that Montenegro is on the way to join the EU, and in order to fulfill the goals of the Green Agenda, the state has an obligation to make urban traffic more accessible to all categories of traffic participants through the promotion of greener modes of transport, and especially to focus on vulnerable participants in traffic, i.e. cyclists, pedestrians, children and the elderly“, believes Šahmanović.
