The preparation of an international public call for the long-term lease of one of Budva’s trademarks – the Mogren Hotel opposite the Old Town – was confirmed by News in the Hotel Group (HG) Budva Riviera.
The public invitation is prepared by the legal representative of the state company in cooperation with the relevant Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism.
The Vijesti source from the majority-owned hotel company explained that the future tenant has the obligation to reconstruct the dilapidated hotel, which currently has three stars, and bring it to the level of five stars.
– One of the conditions for someone to be able to apply for this international tender is to be an operator with at least one hundred hotels. It is expected that during July, after the Board of Directors of the Budva Riviera gives its consent, the Government will also do so, after which the international public invitation could be announced. What is also an important condition is that the future tenant retains all the workers who are currently employed at the Mogren Hotel.
The President of the Board of Directors of the Budva Riviera, Mijomir Pejović, said at a press conference that there is interest from international hotel brands in the Mogren Hotel on the eve of the New Year.
A few years ago, there was an idea of the management of the Budva Riviera to reconstruct the Mogren Hotel.
At the end of September 2019, the then chief architect of Budva, Ana Samardžić, gave consent to the state company to reconstruct and add to the Mogren Hotel, in order to get the fifth star.
The conceptual solution, which was given the green light for Mogren, which is opposite the Old Town with which it forms a single unit, would practically retain its recognizable appearance, only one floor was planned to be upgraded, although the planning document allows for three floors to be upgraded at that location.
The conceptual project envisages the construction of an outdoor swimming pool, a spa center, and the hotel would also have a luxurious presidential suite, while all its facilities would be adapted to the standards that a five-star hotel should have.
In March 2020, the Budva Riviera announced a tender for the selection of the most favorable bidder for the reconstruction and furnishing of the Mogren Hotel, with an estimated value of EUR 6 million including value added tax (VAT).
In September 2021, Pejović sent an initiative to the then Minister of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, Ratko Mitrović, asking him to change the decision of the Ministry and to exclude the Mogren Hotel from the construction ban for the area covered by the DUP Budva center, which would enable reconstruction and an extension, so that Budva’s trademark would receive the prestigious fifth star.
However, it was not approved, so it was not possible to build for a whole year.
