Today, the national airline Air Montenegro inaugurated flights on the Podgorica – Rome route. As announced, flights to the capital of Italy will operate twice a week, every Friday and Monday.
The inaugural flight to Rome by Air Montenegro was marked with a ceremonial event organized in collaboration with the Airports of Montenegro.
The CEO of the company, Mark Anzur, stated that the Podgorica-Rome route will be year-round, with expected increased frequency in the coming years.
“During this year, from January to November, we transported 39,000 passengers on this route. According to our plan for this winter season, Air Montenegro expects to transport around 4,000 passengers to this destination, while we anticipate transporting approximately 10,000 passengers during the summer tourist season,” added Anzur.
The Ambassador of Italy to Montenegro, Andreina Marsella, emphasized that the opening of the direct Podgorica-Rome route will further bring Montenegro and Italy closer.
“We are close countries in every respect – cultural, historical, and geographical – but that wouldn’t mean much without the existence of direct connectivity. We face a great challenge because, by connecting in the coming years, we will further strengthen our political and economic cooperation,” said Marsella.
Vladan Drašković, the director of Airports of Montenegro, stated that Air Montenegro has once again clearly demonstrated the difference between the thinking of commercial airlines owned by other entities and the significance of air connectivity that a national carrier has, emphasizing that Air Montenegro is not just a company but also a part of the overall Montenegrin infrastructure.
