South Korean SK Group is interested in investments in Montenegro

The South Korean company SK Group is interested in starting a business in Montenegro and building offshore power plants. As they stated, the emphasis would be on renewable energy sources such as “offshore” coastal wind power plants, as well as solar power plants on water surfaces.

This was announced after the meeting of Prime Minister Dritan Abazović with company representatives. The Government stated that the prime minister hosted the second largest South Korean economic conglomerate, SK Group, led by Dong Hyun Jang, executive vice president of SK Group, and accompanied by South Korean ambassador Lee Jeungom with the aim of deepening partnership, economic cooperation and starting discussions on possible investments.

The South Korean delegation expressed its readiness to start investments in Montenegro and close economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in other spheres, after a successful meeting with Prime Minister Abazović during the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2023. According to them, the primary focus will be on renewable energy sources such as “offshore” coastal wind power plants, as well as solar power plants on water surfaces – the press release states.

Also, the arrival of a team of engineers was announced to do a preliminary study and mark the best locations for such a project. Abazović emphasized support for strengthening cooperation between our two countries, especially projects that will ensure that Montenegro remains a green destination, an ecological country and ensure energy diversification and sustainability. He reiterated that Montenegro remains open to foreign investments, repeating that the past year marked a record amount of direct foreign investments.

It was concluded that our two countries have established friendship and trust as a foundation on which excellent cooperation based on closer economic relations, innovation and technology can be built.
The guests from SK Group presented Prime Minister Abazović with a conglomerate consisting of 186 companies and 180,000 members, such as Samsung, LG, Hyundai, and whose estimated value is USD 150 billion.
