Montenegro’s foreign trade: January figures reveal a 13.8% year-on-year decrease

The total foreign trade turnover of Montenegro for the month of January amounted to 260.8 million EUR, according to preliminary data from Monstat.

This indicates a decrease of 13.8% compared to the same period last year.

The value of exported goods was 44 million EUR, and imports were 216.8 million. Compared to the same period last year, exports were down by 49.9%, while imports increased by one percent – according to Monstat.

The coverage of imports by exports amounted to 20.3% and is lower compared to the same period last year when it was 40.9%.

In the export structure, according to the Standard International Trade Classification, machines and transport equipment were most represented at 13.8 million EUR, including other transport means and equipment for 10.2 million and others.

As for imports, machines and transport equipment were most represented at 55.5 million EUR. This includes road vehicles with 20.4 million EUR and others.

The largest foreign trade partner in exports was the Czech Republic, to which goods worth 12.4 million EUR were exported. Serbia followed with 12.3 million and the territory of Kosovo with 2.5 million.

Montenegro imported the most goods from Serbia, amounting to 34.1 million EUR. Goods worth 24 million were imported from Germany, and 23.9 million EUR from China.

Foreign trade turnover was highest with CEFTA signatories and the European Union.
