Montenegro is one step closer to the new highway section. After last year’s opening of the first 40 kilometers of the highway, a new 22 kilometers are now planned. For the next section of the highway from Mataševo to Andrijevica, a preliminary project was made.

The executive director of “Monetput” Milan Ljiljanić pointed out that since July 25th, 2022, since the beginning of toll collection, 2,750,000 vehicles have passed through the highway, and 11 million euros have been collected. For the next section from Mateševo to Andrijevica, a conceptual design has been prepared and, as he said, they expect a report on expropriation, which should start next year, as well as the process of selecting a contractor.

He added that the record for the number of passes was recorded on August 20th, when 16,000 vehicles passed in one day.

The maintenance of the highway has been in the hands of Chinese contractors for a little less than a year, but as Ljiljanić says, there were no major defects on this section and they were eliminated in a timely manner.

Ljiljanić added that the access road to Lijeva Rijeka will be built in two phases from Veruša to Lopat.

– We will submit the conceptual solution for the new highway section to the Traffic Administration and we hope to call for a tender in September for the three-kilometer section. A gas station is also planned at the Mrka location, which will be leased on a long-term lease of 25 years. We are nearing the end of the tender and the approvals of the ministries are needed”, says Ljiljanić.

As for electronic toll collection, it is only five percent, which is a small percentage, and the plan is to work on the promotion of that type of payment, so that next year it will be up to 40 percent.

A memorandum of cooperation was signed with the Roads of Serbia, which is the first step towards joint toll collection, and it will work by reconfiguring the toll machines and connecting them to the payment card, so that when we are abroad, the tag will activate the card and download the money that is required.
