A new solar power plant with an approximate capacity of 50 MW is set to be built in the Rudine neighborhood of Nikšić. This project is being undertaken by Qair Montenegro, based in Podgorica, which has submitted a request to the Agency for Environmental Protection to determine if an Environmental Impact Assessment is necessary.

The planned solar power plant, known as SE Rudine, will be constructed on multiple cadastral parcels in the area, with an installed capacity of 46.55 MW. The project will involve the installation of 79,900 solar panels covering a total area of 202,777 m². Once operational, the plant is expected to generate around 73 GWh of electricity annually, although this figure will be finalized in the main project phase.

According to the submitted document, the plant will operate in “On grid” mode, meaning the electricity generated will be fed into the grid only when network voltage is present. In the event of a power outage, the plant will automatically disconnect from the grid.

The operation of the plant under normal conditions must not cause any unacceptable technical consequences compared to pre-construction conditions, particularly regarding voltage-reactive scenarios and potential overloads of transmission network components, which could disrupt supply for existing users.

The energy produced can be monitored through a display on the inverter and via a SCADA system. The document is available for public review until October 9.

It’s also worth mentioning that Qair Montenegro received urban and technical approvals for this solar power plant project in September of the previous year. Additionally, Swiss Green Energy Holding is developing a separate solar power plant with a capacity of 186.1 MWp in the same Rudine area under the name Rudine Energy Park.
