Crucial for the further development of the Port of Bar is investment in infrastructure in the hinterland, primarily in railway infrastructure but also in roads, said Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs Filip Radulović.
He said that he believes the Port of Bar, in line with strategic and spatial planning documents, needs to be developed as the main international freight port in Montenegro.
“What is crucial for the further development of this nationally significant commercial port is significant investment in infrastructure in its hinterland, where I primarily mean railway infrastructure, but certainly also road infrastructure. Appropriate investments in these areas would enable the development of multimodal transport through the Port of Bar,” said Radulović.
Regarding the potential consolidation of port operators in the Port of Bar, Radulović stated that, in collaboration with colleagues from the government, they will examine potential models that could be applied.
“If, of course, the government ultimately decides to consolidate the port area and that it will be managed by Port of Bar AD. In my opinion, for the adequate valorization of the Port of Bar, it would be necessary to reunify the port area and enable one operator to provide port services,” emphasized the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs.
