Improving the tourist offer in Kolašin – Possible construction of a cable car

In the Municipality of Kolašin, primarily due to the configuration of the terrain, the construction of a cable car should be emphasized. In addition to the ski resorts where they already exist, it is possible to envisage them as a special form of transport in the city, it was proposed in the Draft Spatial-Urban Plan (PUP) of Kolašin, which was published on the website of the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, and which is under public discussion.
As stated in the document, it is possible to build a cable car that would connect the city center with the Ski Resort Kolašin 1450. The Plan envisages two variants of the cable car route.
Option 1: Kolašin – Railway station – Smrčje – Ćirilovac – Kolašin 1450.
Option 2: Kolašin – Railway station – Kolašin 1450.
– Variant 1 would have five stations:
starting station Breza – near the Breza barracks with parking space for about 600 vehicles.
intermediate station Railway station – connection with the railway, above all with the coast and other places from Belgrade to Bar. Provided parking for about 70 vehicles.
intermediate station Smrčje – Žičara Breza-Smrčje may represent the first stage of the cable car. The connection of the future tourist resort, town and ski resort is being realized.
intermediate station Ćirilovac – the stop of the cable car would be at a distance of about 200 meters from the Ćirilovac monastery. Anyone who takes the cable car to this location, can walk in the summer, return to Kolašin or climb to the top of Ključ, to the small chapel and hut, from where a fantastic view opens up.
stop station Jezerine 1450 – turning station.
The highest point of the cable car, in variant 2, would be on the Ključ pass at 1,880 meters above sea level, to the left of the mountain hut and the chapel on Ključ, which can be very attractive.
– It is even more attractive that the gondola would overcome an ascent of 300 m above sea level in a distance of only 800 meters and that after that ascent it would descend sharply towards Jezerine with the same drop – the document states.
The capacity of the cable car would be 2,000 passengers per hour.
– The total journey from Breza to the ski resort would take 30 minutes at a speed of 6 m/s. The length of the first section to Smrcje is about 5650 m, the height difference is 80 meters, the journey would take 15 minutes and 42 seconds and the maximum number of baskets would be 111. The length of the second section from Smrcje to the ski resort Kolašin 1450 is about 5150 m, the height difference is 400 meters, the journey would take 14 minutes and 21 seconds, the maximum number of baskets would be 102 – the Plan states.
In variant 2, the starting station is the same as in variant 1, as well as the intermediate station Željeznička stanica, after which it continues directly at the stopping station Jezerine 1450 – the turning station.
As explained, in the first and second variants, the starting station of the gondola can be another appropriate location, such as, for example, the tourism zone in the sports zone.
– These are cable car corridors, and the precise position will be determined by further elaboration of the technical documentation. The plan recommends the preparation of a Feasibility Study that would analyze all proposed variant solutions and show which variant solution is the most favorable – concludes the part of the document related to the development of traffic infrastructure in Kolašin.
