At the last session, members of the local parliament in Herceg Novi gave the green light for the construction of a panoramic elevator, which will connect the promenade and the upper part of the city, and this is a long-standing idea, for which the Municipality announced a tender for a design solution ten years ago.

Secretary for Spatial Planning and Construction Vladislav Velaš informs that the elevator will be positioned on the part of the promenade near Boka beach, while the upper platform would be the plateau in front of Dvorana park.

Although almost every new conceptual solution for changing the city’s vision causes negative comments from some people, according to Velaš, the elevator will be useful for citizens and tourists, and citizens will accept it.

– We all know how difficult it is in the summer season to climb from the promenade or from the coast to the Old Town and even further to higher settlements, especially for parents with small children or elderly people with health problems. I expect that this will be, apart from being a much-needed facility, also a future attraction, for which Herceg Novi might become famousVelaš said.

The idea to build a panoramic elevator is more than half a century old, and it came from the famous Yugoslav architect Nikola Dobrović, who designed the Children’s Department of the Institute and the building of the city Post Office in Herceg Novi.
