The submarine cable project is one of the key ones affecting the integration of Montenegro into the network of European energy systems, it was assessed at the meeting of the president of the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG), Nina Drakić, with representatives of the Italian energy company Terna.

PKCG announced that at the meeting it was concluded that in the planning of the next projects, account will be taken of increasing the capacity of the existing cable, which is of particular importance for Montenegro and its energy companies that have a strategic place in the energy transconnection.

Drakić visited Terna as part of the first official visit to Italy by the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.

PKCG reminded that the first core of the submarine cable between Montenegro and Italy was put into operation in 2019, making Montenegro an energy hub in the Western Balkans.

“The economic parameters generated by the commercial use of the cable prove the correctness of the decision to establish a strategic partnership with the Italian Terna,” the announcement states.

At the meeting in that company, Terna’s previous cooperation with Montenegrin energy companies was discussed, within which it was assessed that the submarine cable project is one of the key ones.
