Transport Commissioner Adina Valean said that the highway through Montenegro towards Serbia is a very important project and that the European Commission is supporting the construction of the highway.
“Some steps should be taken to enable solid financial support from the Commission and we are ready to help Montenegro complete this project”, Valean said at the ministerial meeting of the Treaty on Transport Community under the presidency of Montenegro.
The meeting was attended by the transport ministers of partners from the Western Balkans, and was dedicated to the application of European regulations in the field of transport.
Valeanu said that the countries of the Western Balkans have made progress in the application of European transport legislation, in the application of technical standards, safety and security measures, traffic management and environmental protection measures.
Only the application of these standards can help in the integration of the Balkan transport network in the EU, said the commissioner and added that, however, the countries of the Western Balkans must make more efforts and that they need additional technical assistance from the Union.
There is a bridge at every kilometer
Only in the section from Požega to Duga Poljana, on which work began today and whose length is about 73.73 kilometers, there are a total of 72 bridges with a length of 34.35 kilometers and 10 tunnels with a length of 16.88 kilometers, as well as three overpasses and 20 omissions. They will be built by the China Road and Bridge Corporation CRBC.
The Požega-Duga Poljana section is the southernmost section of the Belgrade-South Adriatic Corridor in Serbia. The project is connected to the Preljina-Požega section in the north and the North-South highway of Montenegro and the port of Bar in the south.
The Belgrade-South Adriatic route is a branch of the Trans-European Highway (TEM), which connects the basic TEM route, from Gdańsk to Athens and Istanbul, with the Adriatic Sea in the territory of Serbia and Montenegro. Within the primary road network of Serbia and Montenegro, this road direction should take over long-distance flows from the existing highways Novi Sad-Valjevo-Užice-Bijelo Polje and the Ibar highway on the part from Belgrade to the border with Montenegro.
“The corridor of the planned highway is one of the most important traffic routes in the road network of Serbia and the Balkan Peninsula. It connects the most important social and economic centers, and the wider importance of this road corridor is reflected in the fact that, via the Trans-European Highway (TEM), which is a branch, provides the European orientation of our country, and through the port of Bar, the Mediterranean orientation of our country, while connecting the port of Bar with the port of Belgrade on the Danube connects the Danube region with the Mediterranean”, they state in “Roads of Serbia”.
Planned construction of five interchanges
At the very beginning of the route, the intersection of two highways, “Miloš Veliki”, i.e. E-763 Belgrade – South Adriatic and E-761 Požega – Kotroman, i.e. the border with the Republic of Srpska, i.e. the highway “Belgrade-Sarajevo”, is planned. In addition, five more interchanges have been designed, which will connect the local population with this road.
Loop “Arilje” – is located north of Arilje. This uneven intersection connects the highway with state road IB line number 21, Požega-Arilje section. Petlja “Ivanjica” – is located northeast of Ivanjica in Prilikama settlement. This uneven intersection is connected to the state road IB line number 21, section Arilje – Prilike.
“Due to the unfavorable topography of the terrain, which affected the direction of expansion of the highway route, it was not possible to locate the interchange closer to Ivanjica. The favorable consequence of this solution is that the possibility of expanding the city to that side is left”, they explain in “Putevi Srbije”.
