The European Investment Bank (EIB) will soon open an office in Podgorica, as announced by the EIB, adding that this is an expression of confidence in Montenegro’s institutions and commitment to its development.
A delegation from the EIB, led by Vice President Kirjakos Kakouris, is visiting Montenegro for the signing of a €11 million grant agreement from the European Union (EU) for the education sector.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić expressed satisfaction with the signing of the agreement with the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation, emphasizing that the €11 million grant will provide a strong impetus for the modernization and equipment of 13 educational institutions across Montenegro.
“Investing in education is an investment in the future. We are pleased that the EU once again confirms itself as our partner on this path,” said Spajić.
During the meeting with the EIB delegation, Spajić presented Montenegro’s development plan until 2030, which relies on intensifying projects in the transportation infrastructure, primarily through the construction of a network of highways and the modernization of railway infrastructure.
He emphasized that there can be no balanced regional development without strengthening transportation connections and highlighted that the announcement of the continuation of highway construction has already sparked interest from foreign investors for investments in northern Montenegro.
Representatives of the EIB informed Spajić about their intention to diversify cooperation with Montenegro, stating that besides projects in the transportation sector and support for small and medium-sized enterprises, there is room for strengthening cooperation in other areas, such as education.
They mentioned that the government’s strategic vision and deliberation on financing important projects protect the country from fiscal risks.
This, they added, is a good, responsible, and different approach.
“Therefore, we closely monitor your activities and wish to enhance cooperation on all fronts. One expression of our relationship with Montenegro is the decision to open an office in Podgorica,” stated the EIB.
