The European Union is ready to build an LNG terminal in Montenegro in partnership with Montenegro, Prime Minister in Technical Mandate Dritan Abazović announced.
Abazović said in a video statement, which was forwarded to the media by the Government of Montenegro, that it was announced in Tirana, at a meeting of foreign affairs ministers within the Berlin Process Initiative, by EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi.
“The construction of a gas terminal in Bar would be of great importance for Montenegro and the region, bearing in mind the energy crisis caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. With its construction, Montenegro would become a hub for other countries in the region when it comes to liquefied gas,” Varhelyi said. , it was announced from the Government.
Abazović said that this is a historical matter for Montenegro and it is an indication that, in addition to, as he stated, we convinced our European partners of the importance of that project, we are moving in the direction of diversifying the Montenegrin economy and that such topics are gaining importance.
“The government previously signed a memorandum with American investors regarding the LNG terminal in Bar. I think this is a really big deal for Montenegro,” said Abazović, who is attending the meeting in Tirana as the coordinator of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro.
