Montenegro should complete the construction of both highways and four expressways by the end of 2030, said Prime Minister Milojko Spajić. He announced public calls for conceptual solutions for all these roads in January, with tenders for the construction of facilities expected to be announced in 2025.
During a meeting with business leaders at the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG), he stated that six public tenders for conceptual solutions for the remaining sections of the Bar-Boljare highway, Adriatic-Ionian highway, and expressways Bijelo Polje – Pljevlja – Sarajevo, Bar – Ulcinj – Albania, bypasses around Budva – Luštica – Croatia, and Andrijevica – Peć will be announced in January.
According to him, the state can finance a capital budget of 900 million euros annually.
He also mentioned a meeting with a delegation from Saudi Arabia that recognized this vision, expressing hope that Montenegro will be able to complete all these roads by 2030.
To completely conclude the infrastructure. Montenegro’s development from that moment will be on autopilot, where we will have perfect infrastructure, established tax bases, police, judiciary, and state administration. At that point, it won’t matter who is in power in Montenegro. We no longer have time to wait. We need accelerated development. With this, all problems with Montenegro’s road traffic connectivity will be solved,” stated Spajić.
He mentioned that the continuation of highway construction was initially planned to start at the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026, but Montenegro no longer has time to wait. It is crucial, he added, that the highway be built in record time.
“By building the highway, we are opening up the northeastern part of Montenegro, which is the poorest but has excellent conditions for agriculture, processing, and industry. With the highway, we will open up the entire region towards Podgorica and the coast, so from Rožaje, Andrijevica, and Berane, you will reach the capital in 45 minutes,” said Spajić.
He also emphasized that the highway will connect Podgorica with three regional centers.
