The citizenship policy is well thought out, the question is how it was applied

Citizenship policy is a sensitive issue that, among others, has a significant impact on the issue of the voter list, because citizens of Montenegro who meet other additional conditions have the right to vote. That is why it is necessary to initiate an inclusive dialogue on the creation of a citizenship policy that enables the exercise of all the rights of citizens, but at the same time takes into account state interests, notes the NGO Center for Democratic Transition.

As they state in the announcement, the citizenship policy conducted in the previous long-term period was well thought out. However, it is necessary to review whether all the effects of that policy were equal for everyone, whether anyone was discriminated against in the process of its administration.

– In this sense, the activities on the liberalization of the citizenship policy during the government of Zdravko Krivokapić represent a bad example and way of dealing with this serious state issue.

They recommend that a system of citizenship control must be established in such a way that its procedure is further legally specified, with an emphasis on the possibility of depriving Montenegrin citizenship when it is unequivocally established that citizens have acquired citizenships of foreign countries without a legal basis, especially those in the surrounding area.
