Of the total number of registered yachts in Montenegro, most of these luxury vessels are owned by Russians, 118, followed by citizens of Serbia with 117, according to the latest data from the Administration of Maritime Safety and Port Management.
The Administration for Cadastre and State Property told Forbes Montenegro that they are not aware that there are Russian citizens who are under sanctions among yacht owners in Montenegro.
After Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Montenegro joined all the restrictive measures adopted by the European Union against Russia and a number of its citizens.
A total of 419 yachts were registered in the yacht register until August of this year, of which 48 belong to Montenegrin citizens.
There are 13 yachts from BiH in the register of the Administration of Maritime Safety and Port Management.
There are no companies among the Russian owners of yachts, that is, they are all registered to natural persons. Five yachts from Belarus were registered in Montenegro, and 16 from Ukraine. Three yachts were registered from Croatia.
According to the Law on Yachts, a yacht is a motor-driven or sailing vessel, which can have more than one hull, intended and equipped for a long stay at sea, for leisure, sports and recreation, the length of which is more than seven meters and which is used for personal needs or business activity.
In the report on the work of the Maritime Safety Administration for the year 2022, it was stated that the total fee for registering yachts in the register was EUR 38,823. The fee for the extension of the certificate was 15,088 euros, the deletion of yachts from the register was 900 euros, and for the technical inspection 16,387 euros.
