The opening of the Kotor-Lovćen cable car for commercial rides is planned for the end of July.
“Testing of the construction of the cable car is proceeding according to plan and is entering the final phase, including work on related facilities,” the announcement states.
The complete testing process is managed by the renowned company Leitner, applying protocols that comply with the strictest European regulations governing the field of “ropeway systems”.
On National Day, July 13th, within the Kotor – Lovćen cable car complex, a working visit of the Prime Minister Dritan Abazović will be held, on the occasion of the finalization of the works, only one year after the foundation stone was laid.
The owner of the Italian company and the world’s leading company for the production and installation of “ropeway” transport systems – Leitner, Martin Leitner, said that it is a privilege to be part of the project, in a location with a view of one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
“It has been a challenging year for us, we have brought to the final stage one of the more demanding projects we have worked on, which considering the experience and tradition of the Leitner company, speaks volumes about the characteristics of the terrain, extremely unfavorable weather conditions, the slope, the length of the route and other challenges that we managed to overcome”, said Leitner.
He stated that they have implemented the most modern solutions, which guarantee safety and comfort when driving, as well as that Montenegro will soon have a cable car in operation at an extremely attractive location, the construction of which, as well as safety checks and protocols, correspond to the highest world standards.
“All this, and especially the incredible natural beauty of Boka and Lovcen, made us decide to take ownership, because we believe that this will be one of the most recognizable tourist attractions on the Adriatic and beyond,” said Leitner.
External, independent testing of the structure of the cable car is carried out by the renowned agency WPK Austria – accredited as an inspection and testing agency specialized in the field of cable car technology and testing.
“In anticipation of July 13th, when Abazović’s visit to the cable car is planned, I would like to point out that we are looking forward to the meeting with pleasure, because our persistence and dedication is undeniable, but without the support of the Government, we would not have been able to complete a project of this level of complexity in just one year.” Leitner stated.
The Kotor – Lovćen cable car project is implemented by the Novi Volvox – Leitner consortium on the basis of a concession contract signed in December 2021, shortly after, on July 12th, 2022, the foundation stone was laid.
The route of the cable car starts from Dub, which is located on the territory of Kotor, and leads to the location of Kuk on the Lovćen mountain, at 1,348 meters above sea level. The projected capacity is 48 gondolas at the level of 1.2 thousand passengers per hour, while the travel time from Dub station to Cook station is less than 11 minutes.
