The economy of Montenegro is based on small businesses, and the state should always keep this in mind when making important decisions, stated Sanja Božović, the owner and director of Montenegro Charter company.
Appearing on the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG) podcast as part of the campaign “Strength is in all of us,” Božović mentioned that elite tourism in Montenegro in recent years has brought significant investments and demonstrated even greater developmental potential, mainly along the Montenegrin coast where numerous luxury marinas have been built.
Božović seized this opportunity to start a business in yacht rental and sales, as well as private air transport.
“Investments like Porto Montenegro, among many others, have significantly contributed to positioning Montenegro on the map of nautical tourism worldwide. However, without infrastructure, hotels, and good hospitality facilities, none of us can conduct business properly. We are all very interconnected, and it is essential to support each other because that’s the only way Montenegro’s economy can grow,” said Božović.
“During visits to various nautical fairs, I wondered if it was possible that I first had to explain to people where Montenegro is, and only then describe the type of vessels we have. Fortunately, that is changing, and today people are aware. All of this is crucial because each of these vessels is like a single company. For example, a yacht over 25 meters long has a crew of three to 30 members, and these are people who earn a minimum of four figures. If they are in Montenegro, they will spend their salary here,” Božović explained.
In Montenegro’s nautical tourism, there aren’t many women. Božović started her business primarily by renting yachts in the country and abroad. The appearance of COVID-19 further redirected her focus to private air transport, and today, she represents a well-known boat manufacturer.
