Postal operators in Montenegro generated EUR 23.43 million in revenue from postal services last year, marking a 24.5% increase compared to 2022, as reported by the Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (EKIP).

EKIP disclosed that there were 26 postal operators active in Montenegro’s postal services market last year. Aside from Montenegro Post, which serves as the universal postal operator with the right and obligation to provide universal postal services and commercial postal services across Montenegro, the remaining 25 operators provided commercial postal services, according to the statement.

In the past year, postal operators collectively handled 41.47 million postal services, a 14.8% increase from the previous year. Of all postal services provided, 96.8% were in domestic postal traffic, while international postal traffic accounted for 3.2%, EKIP stated.

According to reports from Montenegro Post, the operator saw a 14.4% increase in the physical volume of postal services compared to the previous year, driven by growth in express services, financial transaction services, hybrid mail, and letter services.

“According to data obtained from the other 25 commercial postal operators, the total physical volume of services provided last year was 35.5% higher than the previous year, largely due to the increase in e-commerce and online trade,” the statement said.

Montenegro Post continues to hold a dominant position in the postal services market, accounting for 98% of the total volume of postal services for the past year, while other operators held a 2% share.

“However, when considering specific types of commercial postal services, this ratio varies, especially in parcel and express services. Postal operators such as Montenomaks Control & Logistics, NTC Logistics, Express One Montenegro, Arde Com, Halo Dostava, and Kingscliffe Distribution Montenegro – DHL significantly contribute to these service markets,” EKIP added.

In addition to the increase in the overall volume of postal services provided, there has been noticeable growth in revenue generated from postal services in Montenegro.

“Total revenue from postal services in the past year was 24.5% higher compared to the previous year. Montenegro Post accounts for 81.5% of total postal service revenues, with other postal operators contributing 18.5%,” EKIP specified.

Total revenues from postal services at Montenegro Post were 21.7% higher last year compared to the total revenues from these services in 2022, while total revenues from postal services at other postal operators increased by 38.5% compared to revenues from postal services they achieved in 2022.

EKIP, an independent regulatory body for electronic communications and postal services sectors, significantly contributes to ensuring a secure and predictable regulatory framework for the development of these sectors.

“One of the agency’s important responsibilities in the postal sector regulation is monitoring the status and development of the postal services market and conducting periodic analyses,” the statement concluded.

This comprehensive overview captures the dynamic landscape of Montenegro’s postal services sector in the past year, highlighting both operational growth and financial performance across various service providers.
