Overview of agricultural trends: Land use and crop production in the past year

In the previous year, agricultural land use totaled 263.52 thousand hectares, marking a 3.9% increase compared to 2022, according to preliminary data from Monstat.

Statisticians highlighted that perennial meadows and pastures dominated the total agricultural land use at 94.6%, with arable land accounting for 2.7%, permanent crops 2%, and gardens 0.7%.

“Compared to 2022, there was a 4% increase in perennial meadows and pastures, and a 5.8% increase in arable land, while there was a decline of 2.8% in permanent crops and 0.8% in gardens,” the statement noted.

The total maize grain production last year amounted to 3.17 thousand tons, marking a 12.5% increase compared to 2022.

Increases in production were also observed for peppers by 1.3%, cucumbers by 3.7%, watermelons by 6.4%, and melons by 3.6%.

“Compared to 2022, there was a 3.1% increase in overall mandarin production, while production of plum, apple, pear, peach, and olive decreased,” Monstat specified.

Overall grape production in the past year decreased by 23.1% compared to 2022.
