Montenegro to boost solar power: Plans for 100 MW installation by year’s end

Milutin Đukanović, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Elektroprivreda (EPCG), announced that by the end of the year, Montenegro will see the installation of solar panels generating approximately 100 megawatts (MW) of power on rooftops across the country.

During a visit to Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, German Ambassador Peter Felten engaged in discussions with Chairman Milutin Đukanović and CEO Ivan Bulatović, where they were briefed on EPCG’s strategic initiatives, particularly focusing on renewable energy sources (RES). These projects form part of an investment cycle valued at around 400 million EUR, with discussions also centering on potential collaborations within the energy sector.

Chairman Milutin Đukanović provided Ambassador Felten with an overview of EPCG’s recent achievements, highlighting a robust plan implemented over the past three years. He emphasized the significance of projects advancing Montenegro’s green transition, including the Solari 3000+/500+ initiative, aligned with the principle of localized energy production.

Đukanović confidently stated, “By the end of the year, Montenegro will have installed approximately 100 megawatts of solar panel capacity on rooftops.”

Ambassador Felten received insights into Montenegro’s considerable hydro and solar energy potentials, alongside discussions on integrating solar power plants with existing hydroelectric infrastructure. Attention was also given to connecting unit A8 at the Perućica Hydroelectric Power Plant, underscoring the strong cooperation between EPCG and the German Development Bank.

CEO Ivan Bulatović expressed keen interest in collaborating with German firms in the energy sector. He emphasized the importance of leveraging Germany’s expertise, particularly in adhering to European regulatory standards during energy project implementations.

“Our investment goals are clear: promoting clean energy and ensuring a healthy environment,” Bulatović affirmed.

Ambassador Felten expressed satisfaction with EPCG’s commitment to the green energy transition, its capacity in renewable energy utilization, and its adherence to international standards in enhancing energy infrastructure.

Both sides acknowledged the potential for strengthening cooperation between EPCG and reputable German companies, aiming not only to foster economic growth but also to bolster bilateral relations.
