With effective decisions and stimulating policies, by 2028 we can earn up to 2 billion UER in tourism, Prime Minister Dritan Abazović said during a lecture he gave at the Mediterranean University.
As it was announced, the Prime Minister held a lecture on the topic “Economy of Montenegro – state, directions of development and perspectives”.
Abazović pointed out the need for the development of religious and health tourism and better valorization of the potential and cultural assets such as the icon of Filermos, for which a special facility needs to be built in Cetinje.
The Prime Minister presented the results of the Government’s work and economic parameters, which, as he said, represent records and have a tendency for further growth. Fiscal discipline, legal certainty, healthy business environment and efficient state administration – this is the vision of Montenegro on the right path – said the Prime Minister.
He pointed out that the “economy of speculation” behind which market monopolists successfully hid must be stopped. We must persevere in an environment of legal security because it guarantees more new healthy investments – he said.
During his presentation, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the efficiency of the state administration, which must simplify procedures and be able to make decisions in order to enable the economy to develop. In this way, as he pointed out, by 2030, Montenegro would overtake half of the European Union in terms of economic development.
In addition, the Prime Minister indicated the need for stronger diversification of the economy in the direction of further development of the energy, food production and IT sectors, which represent development opportunities and potential for new employment and better standards of citizens.
The prime minister also spoke about capital projects such as the continuation of the highway, the construction of the Kotor-Lovćen cable car, the Plav-Dečani road, the Tivat-Jaz boulevard and the cable cars in Mojkovac, Kolašin and Bijelo Polje, which are in various stages of implementation.
During the lecture, he referred to the modernization projects of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant, the construction of a cement plant, the unification of the Port of Bar and better valorization of the airport.
Whoever segmented Luka Bar, did not have the interests of Montenegro in mind – he said. I believe that in a few years, Montenegro will be a country where citizens of the European Union will come to live and work – the Prime Minister concluded the lecture.
In the continuation of his visit to the University, the Prime Minister answered numerous questions from students and professors. From the status of the Dr. Simo Milošević Institute, the continuation of the highway, unfair competition, inflation and wage growth. About 150 students, professors and media representatives attended the lecture.
On behalf of the University, the rector, prof., welcomed the Prime Minister. Dr. Savo Marković and vice-rector and dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business prof. Dr. Marija Janković.
This is the Prime Minister’s first visit to our University and at the same time the most attended forum ever at this higher education institution – said rector Marković.
Representatives of the Railways of Republika Srpska, Gordana Ilinčić and Iris Brnić, congratulated the jubilee and expressed their special pleasure to attend the meeting, emphasizing that through the Transport Union they have excellent cooperation with the railways of the region, which, they hope, will further improve after this meeting.
The executive director of ŽPCG, Ilinka Pavićević, spoke about the history of the railways of Montenegro. On this occasion, she recalled the first narrow-gauge railway from Bar – Virpazar, then the railway from the direction of Trebinje and Bileć, the Nikšić – Titograd railway, all the way to the Belgrade – Bar railway, the so-called “dream railway”, which was put into traffic on May 28th, 1976 .
