Three marine protected areas received management plans

The Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism adopted Management Plans for all three marine protected areas in Montenegro, declared during 2021.

The management plan for the “Platamuni” nature park was adopted on December 23rd last year, while the management plans for the “Katič” and “Stari Ulcinj” nature parks were adopted on April 6th this year.

The plans are the basis for the successful functioning, preservation and valorization of protection in these areas, and are drawn up in accordance with the Law on Nature Protection.

The plans were drawn up by the manager – the Public Enterprise for the Management of Marine Assets of Montenegro with the support of the Ministry, and through the GEF project “Promoting the management of protected areas through the integrated protection of marine and coastal ecosystems in the coastal area of ​​Montenegro. In parallel with the development of management plans, within the same project, several workshops were held where they worked on the preparation of guidelines for the development of management plans for all protected areas, which will enable easier and better quality development of these key documents.

By adopting the management plans, another obligation from the Action Plan on meeting the final benchmarks of Chapter 27 – Environment and Climate Change was fulfilled, the announcement concludes.
