Investing in the electric power network will be one of the strategic commitments of the new Government, announced the Minister of Energy and Mining, Saša Mujović, announcing that the formation of a special directorate is planned to deal with international projects and cooperation with the European Energy Community.

The energy sector in Montenegro, was pleased by the recent statement by the president of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, that the country could become a major supplier of electricity in the region.

Elektroprivreda (EPCG) said that they are glad that European officials recognize the potential of Montenegro in this area, and that this is a great opportunity for us.

And Mujović said that he is honored to start his mandate with the outstretched hand of the European Union (EU), saying that he will try to improve the situation in the energy sector, as well as cooperation with the Union.

Mujović used his first working day in his new position to visit one of the 15 electricity transmission facilities in Montenegro, which is being improved thanks to EU funds, with Von der Leyen.

Investing in the electric power network, as Mujović claims, will be one of the new Government’s strategic decisions because, as he states, it brings certain benefits.

“Each transmission line represents a type of highway, if we translate it into the traffic dictionary. This is actually the way in which we can export and import electricity, become a transit area, enable the transmission of electricity through those lines and collect significant revenues”, said Mujović.

Von der Leyen previously said that Montenegro could collect significant revenues by exporting electricity to countries in the region. EPCG welcomes her statement.

The president of the EPCG Board of Directors, Milutin Đukanović, said that the company has been announcing this for a long time and that it can be noticed that in the last year or two they have started to build new sources of electricity.

“We focused on solar panels, but Montenegro also has exceptional potential in terms of hydro and wind energy. We think it’s a great chance”, asserts Đukanović.

And that we often don’t know how to use the big opportunities for which we receive help from the EU, through various donations, in the right way, says the president of the Montenegrin Pan-European Union (CPU), Gordana Đurović.
