Montenegrin tourist season: Success and challenges ahead

The president of the Montenegrin Tourism Association, Žarko Radulović, expressed satisfaction with the current summer season along the coast. He noted the significant crowds in coastal areas and indicated that the final results would be clear only at the end of the year.

  • The season is meeting our expectations and goals. However, it’s uncertain how much this will offset the shortfall from the pre-season. The pre-season clearly underperformed, mainly due to limited air connectivity with Europe and beyond – Radulović explained to Radio Montenegro.

He added that, while there are large crowds now, the ultimate outcome for the year remains uncertain.

  • There are plenty of guests, and most capacities, especially in collective accommodations, are fully booked, which is encouraging. However, we remain anxious about the future, particularly with the announced increase in VAT – Radulović remarked.

Jovan Rosić from the Association of Private Accommodation Providers shared similar sentiments about the season’s progress.

  • Most private accommodation providers are satisfied. July and August have traditionally seen high occupancy rates. We’ve noticed a slight increase in prices, averaging around ten percent. Hosts who maintained their prices or raised them minimally saw early bookings and high occupancy. Both groups are reporting good occupancy rates and promising forecasts for the post-season – Rosić noted.

Ilija Armenko, a beach leaseholder, offered a different perspective.

  • The season is typical, nothing spectacular, neither better nor worse than usual. Respectfully, the season hasn’t made significant progress. We hope things will improve, but it’s essentially the same as every year. The six-month season is gone, along with many good guests, including Ukrainians and Russians. We’ll earn enough to survive, but the profits are minimal – Armenko stated.

Armenko hopes for an increase in guests in the coming period to consider the season successful.
