Montenegro’s Transport Minister, Maja Vukićević, announced that the modernization of the Belgrade-Bar railway is a top priority for the domestic administration, with support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). During a transport ministers’ meeting in Budapest, Vukićević held a bilateral meeting with Albania’s Transport Minister, Belinda Baluku.
The ministers discussed a 2013 agreement between the Montenegrin government and the Albanian Council of Ministers concerning the regulation of railway crossings, which designates the Tuzi railway station for joint control. Montenegro is currently working on a project to modernize a 25-kilometer stretch of track.
This project includes electrification works and the reconstruction of the railway station. Vukićević emphasized the commitment to the Belgrade-Bar modernization, alongside ongoing efforts to revitalize the Bar-Golubovci railway, with construction set to begin next year, supported by allocated funding.
Baluku highlighted the importance of the Belgrade-Bar railway for Albania and noted the strong regional cooperation, especially with Serbia. The meeting also covered the Blue Corridor project for Albania’s road infrastructure, which has begun construction from Tirana to the Montenegrin border. Baluku updated Vukićević on plans for a highway extending to the border with Montenegro.
Delegations exchanged information about developing a fast highway along Montenegro’s coastline, continuing through Albania to Greece, referred to as the Blue Highway.
