Transport Minister Maja Vukićević highlighted the critical importance of the Belgrade-Bar railway for Montenegro during a meeting with Johan Satler, the newly appointed EU ambassador. They discussed the current state of the transport sector and regional cooperation, particularly with Serbia.
Vukićević shared updates on the national roads and railway system, emphasizing ongoing tenders and the reconstruction of the Belgrade-Bar railway, which connects to Albania. She noted the collaborative efforts among regional countries to attract financial support for key infrastructure projects through a joint letter to the European Commission.
The conversation also focused on the Bar-Boljare highway project, specifically the current status and future timelines for its second phase. Vukićević mentioned the need for enhanced capacity and improvements at Montenegro’s airports, stressing the importance of sustainable airport management in light of the rapidly expanding tourism sector. Ultimately, the decision on whether to manage the airports through state control or a concessionaire will be made by the government.
