Simonida Kordić, Montenegro’s Minister of Tourism, held a meeting today in Herceg Novi with representatives from coastal municipalities and the tourism sector to address crucial issues and strategies for enhancing tourism in the coastal region. The focus was on improving collaboration between the Ministry and local authorities.

Key topics included the state of airports and border crossings, which Minister Kordić highlighted as vital entry points for tourists. She stressed the importance of upgrading these infrastructure elements to ensure a positive first impression of Montenegro.

Kordić also revealed that she had recently spoken with Roko Tolić, Director of Airports of Montenegro, about expanding flight connections and increasing airport capacities. The Ministry is committed to supporting these efforts, as current airport capacities are being stretched by record passenger numbers. Enhancements are needed to accommodate growing demand, she noted.

In addition, the Minister addressed the issue of traffic congestion on the route from Herceg Novi to Ulcinj, which affects both tourism and the daily lives of residents. She proposed several solutions, including the introduction of transit fees to divert traffic away from coastal areas, increasing police presence on major routes, and implementing measures such as a ‘fast lane’ for local residents and tourism professionals. She also suggested providing free Wi-Fi at border crossings to improve the travel experience.

The meeting also touched on the need for a comprehensive tourism development strategy for Montenegro. Kordić emphasized the importance of presenting a unified tourism package that highlights the complementary nature of the southern and northern parts of the country. Today’s tourists are looking for a complete experience, and marketing both regions as interconnected can maximize their appeal and benefits.
