The airports of Montenegro are planning to build a new passenger terminal at the airport in Podgorica, and that investment would cost between 30 and 40 million EUR. This was announced by the president of the company’s Board of Directors, Eldin Dobardžić, at today’s Government session.

As he said, the valid master plan adopted by the Government in July 2011 foresees the construction of a new terminal of 12,500 m2, which is located on the northern section of the current terminal building.

– The square footage does not have to be of those dimensions, it can be smaller, 10,000 or 8,000 square meters. We would hire an expert consulting company to do a preliminary project and, based on traffic and trends, estimate which square footage would be sufficient for us – said Dobardžić.

According to him, given the current indicators, Podgorica Airport will be the carrier of the development of the aviation industry in Montenegro in the coming period, and therefore it was decided to build a new terminal building right in the capital.

– According to some estimates, a building of potentially 10,000 m2 with complete equipment, traffic lanes, new parking area, platform and taxiway would cost between 30 and 40 million EUR. We have a part of our own funds with which we would start the realization of the project, and we would provide a part from a loan, and at some point maybe the state as the owner could help – said Dobardžić.

If the state gets the green light for this project, implementation could begin in the spring or early summer of the following year.

This announcement was approved and supported by Prime Minister Dritan Abazović, as well as the ministers of economic development and tourism, finance and agriculture Goran Đurović, Aleksandar Damjanović and Vladimir Joković.
