Tourism Minister Simonida Kordić has emphasized the significant tourist potential of the central region, which has previously been overlooked as a tourist zone. She believes the region can fill market niches that are not addressed by the south or north.
Kordić convened a meeting with representatives from central region municipalities and the tourism sector to address crucial aspects of the region’s tourism development strategy and to enhance cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and local authorities.
The Municipality of Nikšić hosted the meeting, as noted by the Ministry of Tourism.
Kordić stressed the importance of understanding Montenegro as a unified tourism product, where each region can develop its unique attributes while complementing others.
“The central region, which has not been recognized as a tourist area until now, actually has substantial potential and can target market niches that the south and north cannot address. It was crucial for me to hear suggestions from tourism organizations and industry representatives about potential legislative changes to facilitate their operations,” said Kordić.
She revealed that the Ministry plans to propose amendments to the Law on Tourist Organizations and the Law on Accommodation Tax in the third quarter of this year to incorporate these suggestions into legislation.
Nikšić Mayor Marko Kovačević expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s newfound interest in the central region’s tourism, calling it a positive development under Minister Simonida Kordić.
“I believe we shared valuable experiences and offered several constructive proposals that will help the Ministry of Tourism, together with local tourism organizations, enhance the tourism offerings in the central region,” Kovačević stated.
All participants agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation to fully leverage the region’s potential and improve its tourism offerings.
The meeting concluded with an agreement on the next steps and measures to advance tourism development in the central region.
