As it was announced, the Minister of Capital Investments, Ervin Ibrahimović, met with the Ambassador of Turkey, Bariša Kalkavan, to discuss further, concrete steps, which mean stronger traffic connections between the two countries. Ibrahimović pointed out that Montenegro and Turkey are characterized by friendly relations with mutual readiness for continuous deepening of bilateral cooperation.

Montenegro is recognized as an attractive tourist destination and in this sense we must create conditions for the opening of new markets, and looking at the global economy, as well as the events in Ukraine, we are aware of the fact that for many years the airports in Turkey, especially the one in Istanbul, represent hubs through which tourists from various countries come to our country – said Ibrahimović.

Kalkavan said that official data show that a significant number of foreign companies in Montenegro are owned by Turkish citizens. The national airlines of the two countries also contributed to the good bilateral cooperation, he said. Bearing in mind that fact, the interest of the low-cost airline Pegasus to establish flights to Montenegro was expressed.

Pegasus is the leading Turkish low-cost airline that covers 126 destinations and connects destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa with 96 aircraft.

The State Secretary at the Ministry, Admir Šahmanović, referred to the possibility of cooperation between Pegasus and the national airline, pointing out the business challenges faced by ToMontenegro, but also the state’s need to support its airline as much as possible.

The meeting was attended by the director of Turkish airlines in Montenegro Muttalip Ilhan, Pegasus representative Emre Pekesen, as well as the president of the ToMontenegro Board of Directors, Pavle Ljesar.

The goal of the joint meeting is to find a business model that will provide space for all companies on the market and enable favorable business conditions – the announcement reads.

The Ministry stated that an innovative Air Transport Agreement was also signed, with the aim of attracting more tourists who will visit Montenegro already in this summer IATA 2023 season.
