The railway system requires constant and large investments, as well as the monitoring of technological innovations and the green agenda, stated the State Secretary of the Ministry of Capital Investments, Dajana Perković.

She said that the rehabilitation projects of 24 bridges on the Bar railway have just been completed, while the final works on the rehabilitation of four tunnels and the reconstruction and adaptation of the station building in Bijelo Polje are underway.

“This Government has recognized the importance of urgent investment in railways, and this year the funds for the ongoing maintenance of railways and the obligation of public transport of passengers have been significantly increased. In the last 17 years, more than 190 million EUR have been invested in railway infrastructure projects and over 35 million EUR in rolling stock.

More than 92 percent of the railway network is powered by electricity, which shows our commitment to the environment. The general overhaul of the tracks has been completed on more than 50 percent of the entire network, and we are negotiating for further work every day,” announced Perković.

The delegation of the Ministry, headed by Perković, director of the Directorate for Railways Momčil Jelić, head Tanja Dašić and director of the Directorate for Railways Denis Lukač, attended the celebration of the jubilee of 115 years of existence of Montenegrin railways. Perković, as announced by the Ministry, said that today Montenegro proudly celebrated 115 years since the beginning of railway traffic.

“Since its inception, railway transport has played a key role in connecting cities, regions and people in Montenegro. Over the decades, the railway became an indispensable part of the infrastructure that enabled the fast and efficient transportation of passengers and goods. Today, railways remain an important pillar of our transport system, they enable connections within the country, but also with neighboring and distant destinations”, said Perković.

The meeting was opened by the president of the Board of Directors of Montecargo, Miroslav Brajović, who expressed satisfaction with the organization of a joint meeting of the railway sector of Montenegro, Serbia and Republika Srpska, and on the occasion of the jubilee – 115 years of railways in Montenegro.
“Representatives of Serbia, Montenegro and Republika Srpska gathered here, while unfortunately the representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina were not able to attend due to their commitments.

We will try to organize everything on a much higher level next year, no matter in which country. It is important that the representatives of the once unique railway be together at the same table,” said Brajović. Jelić said that he believes that joint cooperation is key for the further progress of the railway sector in Montenegro, but also for the entire region.

Through regular meetings and open communication, as he stated, the relevant Ministry will be able to provide support and propose solutions for the current challenges faced by state-owned companies.
Lukacs pointed out that he is looking forward to cooperation, which should be accelerated and strengthened in the future. Through the strengthening of cooperation between the Ministry of Capital Investments, the Railway Administration and other relevant actors, progress can be achieved in the maintenance and improvement of the railway infrastructure in Montenegro, he said.

The Executive Director of the Railway Infrastructure (ŽICG), Marina Bošković, pointed out that such a meeting is proof that the railway connects and connects people.She referred to the upcoming opening of the joint border railway station of Serbia and Montenegro in Bijelo Polje, pointing out that at the beginning of her mandate she attended a meeting of the Transport Union, where one of her colleagues told her that there are no bad projects and that it is crucial to start all the projects, which will be corrected on the go in order to realize them as soon as possible.

Encouraged by this advice, and with the support of the Ministry of Capital Investments, ŽICG put all planned projects into operation, so we can expect their realization in three to five years.

“One of the most significant projects is certainly the construction of the joint border railway station of Serbia and Montenegro in Bijelo Polje, which will enable shorter travel times, simplify accompanying procedures, and improve and speed up the transportation of goods and passengers, which is in the common interest of both countries,” she pointed out. He said that it was extremely important that they had the opportunity to hold a very constructive meeting with their colleagues from Serbia regarding the upcoming tourist season.

The General Director of Railways of Serbia, Goran Adžić, wished a happy jubilee in the hope that railway companies in Montenegro would last for a long time and continue to achieve good results.

Director of the Directorate for Railways of Serbia, Lazar Mosurović, wished strength and courage in the future further work on development, emphasizing that significant progress has already been made in improving the railway sector of Montenegro at all levels. He also pointed out that he is particularly pleased with the upcoming opening of the future joint railway station in Bijelo Polje.

The representatives of Srbija voz, Zoran Puzović and Đorđe Prokić, are convinced of the continuation and deepening of the already extremely good cooperation, pointing out that they have agreed with ŽPCG on important details regarding the upcoming tourist season.

They presented the investments realized in coordination with the Ministry and the Government of Serbia, and for the provision of couchettes and sleeping cars for international trains on the route Bar – Belgrade – Bar.

They especially emphasized the desire and hope that this train will become a symbol of connecting Montenegro and Serbia.

Representatives of the Srbija Cargo company and the Railway Infrastructure of Serbia congratulated the jubilee and pointed out that there are visible developments related to the reconstruction of the Bar railway. They also stated that they have excellent cooperation with Montecargo on numerous projects.
