Tax inspectors in Montenegro conducted 622 business inspections in the first four months of the year, identifying irregularities with 92 businesses and imposing fines totaling 494,800 euros, according to the Tax Administration (PU).

The most common irregularities found were related to Article 10 of the Law on Fiscalization in the Sale of Goods and Services, specifically the failure to issue fiscal receipts.

The PU announced that it will conduct increased inspections across Montenegro in the coming period. These efforts are part of ongoing actions aimed at ensuring legal compliance, combating the informal economy, and increasing tax discipline ahead of the summer tourist season.

The focus will be on private accommodation providers, hospitality businesses, beach bars, and other service industries with increased turnover during the tourist season. The goal is to ensure fiscal receipts are issued, sales are properly reported, and employees are registered. Priority will be given to sectors and entities identified as high-risk based on previous analyses and citizen reports.

As part of regular inspections, activities such as construction, beauty and hair salons, and other service industries will also be monitored.

From January 1 to April 30, 24 taxpayers were temporarily banned from operating, including four hair salons and eight self-service laundromats.

The PU has called on all businesses to align their operations with current laws to avoid penalties, including fines, work bans, and other sanctions.

Additionally, citizens are encouraged to report any observed irregularities through the call center at 19707 or the “Be Responsible” platform.
