The intention of the company “Tara resources” is to make the Brskovo mine one of the largest zinc mines in Europe. According to their calculations, the mine could generate annual export revenues of around 100 million euros, and would pay annual concession fees and taxes of around ten million euros. Their plan is for approximately three million euros of annual concession fees to go directly to the Municipality of Mojkovac.
Apart from the money, the company claims that it will employ a large number of citizens, and that they expect to be one of the largest employers in the country, with around 450 direct and 200 indirect jobs created.
The company also says that it advocates for the protection of the environment and that it is guided by international practices, especially in waste and water management.
Buying the trust of citizens?
The company “Tara resources”, i.e. “Brskovo mine”, has helped the citizens of Mojkovac in various ways in the past period, through donations and support for various projects.
This is how this company sponsored athletes, donated computer equipment to a high school and provided scholarships to students. Also, with a donation of 17,500 euros, they provided support for the improvement of archaeological research in the medieval town of Brskovo.
From the “Zdravi Mojkovac“ initiative, they also claim that the company has been inviting representatives of the local government and individuals who opposed the opening of the mine at the previous public hearing to meetings, so that the company’s management could “explain to them what they did not understand”. They ask if it is not against the law and an attempt to influence public opinion?
