There are no obstacles to the re-approval of the tourism and real estate development cooperation agreement between Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Parliament, and it is expected to receive much greater support this time, said Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.

“There is no obstacle to this agreement being re-approved in Parliament. I believe the majority should be much bigger this time. The agreement was passed previously with 50 or so votes. This time, 81 members of Parliament have every right to vote enthusiastically for this phenomenal agreement, which will boost Montenegro’s economy,” Spajić told journalists in Bar, where he attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a kindergarten.

Commenting on the response from European Commissioner for Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, to Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, stating that the agreement does not appear to contradict European Union (EU) law or the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between Montenegro and the EU, Spajić noted that the first sentence of the opinion clearly states that the agreement is not against European legislation.

“We will wait for the second, third, and even the 105th review. They formally sent a letter saying the agreement does not contradict EU law, which was the essence of the question posed by the President. I am very pleased with such a response,” said Spajić.

According to him, this shows that the government was completely correct when it stated that the agreement complies with European legislation.

Spajić added that Montenegro is fully aligned with EU legislation in the areas of competition and state aid.

“This year, we should close that chapter, so I think this is an indicator that we were absolutely right about this agreement, and we are glad that the European Commission has confirmed this,” Spajić concluded.

Earlier, Milatović signed the law confirming the economic cooperation agreement between the governments of Montenegro and the UAE, but the one concerning cooperation in tourism and real estate development was sent back to the Parliament for re-decision.
