Passenger transport rises in Q3 2025, rail traffic down 14% in Montenegro

Passenger transport in Montenegro recorded growth in road, local road, and air traffic during the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while rail transport saw a decline.

According to data from Monstat, the number of passengers transported by rail decreased by 14.4%, while increases were recorded in road transport by 0.2%, local road transport by 2.4%, and air transport by 9.2%.

Freight transport in the third quarter also showed mixed results compared to the same period in 2024. Rail and air freight declined by 21.6% and 10.1%, respectively, while road freight increased by 1.2%, and total cargo handled in ports rose by 4.1%.

The volume of goods loaded and unloaded in ports increased by 9.7% year-on-year, while the amount of manipulated goods fell by 2.8%, according to Mina Business.

Monstat also reported that the number of registered road motor and trailer vehicles in the third quarter reached 88.89 thousand, marking a 2.2% increase compared to the same period last year.

However, the number of newly registered vehicles stood at 9.48 thousand, representing a 7% decline compared to the third quarter of 2024.
