Over 21,000 businesses in Montenegro have frozen accounts, debt nears €1.5 billion

According to data from the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG), nearly 21,000 companies and entrepreneurs had their accounts blocked by the end of June 2025—an increase of 0.15% compared to the end of May.

The total amount of debt leading to account freezes reached €1.48 billion, marking a 1.97% rise from the previous month.

Debt concentration remains high. The top ten debtors, representing just 0.05% of all recorded entities, account for 34.4% of the total blocked amount, or €508.99 million.

Additionally, the 50 largest debtors—just 0.24% of all entities—are responsible for 53.27% of the total blocked debt, amounting to €788.16 million.

About 1,270 entities have been under continuous account blockage for up to one year, with a total debt of €34.54 million, or 2.33% of the total.

The vast majority—around 19,720 companies or entrepreneurs—have been in blockage for over a year, with debts totaling €1.44 billion.
