Montenegro’s average wage trends: January 2025 sees growth in net wages, decline in real earnings

In January, the average wage before taxes and contributions in Montenegro was €1,000, according to Monstat data, which marks a 0.8% decrease compared to December of the previous year. However, the average net wage in January showed a 22.6% increase compared to the same month in the previous year.

The average gross wage in Montenegro for January was €1,200.

“Considering that consumer prices in January increased by 1.2% compared to December, real wages for the same period declined by 2%,” the statement noted.

In terms of net wages, there was growth in January compared to the previous month in the following sectors: agriculture, forestry, and fishing (5.5%), transport and storage (4.4%), healthcare and social protection (4.3%), construction (3.3%), wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (1.2%), mining (0.7%), electricity, gas, stea, and air conditioning supply (0.6%), manufacturing, and accommodation and food services (0.1%).

However, there was a decline in average wages before taxes and contributions in January compared to the previous month in the following sectors: information and communication (11.6%), professional, scientific, and technical activities (6.7%), water supply, sewerage, waste management and similar activities (5.8%).

Other sectors that experienced a decrease include administrative and support service activities (3.8%), public administration and defense, compulsory social security (3.5%), financial activities and insurance (2.8%), education (1.5%), real estate activities (0.7%), other service activities (0.4%), and arts, entertainment and recreation (0.3%).
