Montenegro’s annual consumer price inflation stood at 2.9 percent in January 2026, according to data released by the Statistical Office of Montenegro (MONSTAT). This marked a continuation of relatively moderate inflation pressures compared with previous months.
The official figures show that the consumer price index increased by 2.9 percent year-on-year, while on a monthly basis prices rose by 0.1 percent compared with December 2025. The annual rate reflects changes in the average cost of goods and services typically purchased by households.
Price growth in January was driven by increases in categories such as tobacco, solid fuels, meat and meat products, fruit and nuts, milk and dairy products including eggs, as well as certain household maintenance services and bundled telecommunications services.
Although prices continue to rise, the January reading indicates a relatively contained inflation environment compared with peaks recorded in previous periods. Inflation trends remain a key factor for economic policy, wage indexation and household purchasing power in Montenegro as the year begins.
