With members in 129 countries WTN has become the voice for SMEs of the travel industry around the globe. Today Montenegro took a key role.

The Minister of Economic Development and Tourism for the Republic of Montenegro, the Hon. Goran Đurović told eTurboNews why his country joined the World Tourism Network. The minister said in a press statement: “Our vision, according to National Tourism Strategy, is to become a globally recognized destination up to 2025. I trust that WTN will assist us in reaching this goal.”

Montenegro is a European Country bordering Croatia, Bosnia- Herzegovina, Serbia, and Albania. This Balkan nation with rugged mountains, medieval villages, and a narrow strip of beaches along its Adriatic coastline is also a significant travel and tourism destination. The capital city is Podgorica. The Bay of Kotor, resembling a fjord, is dotted with coastal churches and fortified towns such as Kotor and Herceg Novi. Durmitor National Park, home to bears and wolves, encompasses limestone peaks, glacial lakes, and 1,300m-deep Tara River Canyon.

Montenegro has approximately 600,000 citizens. According to the Montenegro’s tourism website montenegro.travel, it’s so small one could drive across it in the afternoon. Although a small country, it is incredibly diverse.

The director of tourism of Montenegro Aleksandra Gardasevic-Slavuljica has been active in leading the Balkan Chapter of the World Tourism Network. She attended many of the discussions helping WTN members to go through the COVID pandemic. World Tourism Network founder and Chairman Juergen Steinmetz, who recently traveled to Montenegro and also met the Hon. Minister Đurović and director Gardasevic-Slavuljica said: “We’re very proud to welcome the Government of Montenegro among our members in 129 countries. Montenegro has played a major role in our young organization.

“Knowing we have the minister’s support is a big step forward to integrating Montenegro even more in our global conversation and activities. I was impressed to experience so many opportunities this country provides as an international and diversified jewel of a travel and tourism destination.”

The minister had told eTurboNews in a previous interview: “Our goal is to strategically develop Montenegrin tourism sustainably, by economic goals, cultural values, preservation of natural resources, and respecting the needs of the local population and tourists.” World Tourism Network is the long-overdue voice of small and medium-sized travel and tourism businesses worldwide. By uniting our efforts, we bring to the forefront the needs and aspirations of small and medium-sized businesses and their Stakeholders.
