Montenegro’s summer tourism season is showing strong growth, with a 15% increase in visits in the north compared to last year, driven by a diversification of tourism offerings beyond sun and sea. Visitors are increasingly seeking nature, active tourism, wine tours, and authentic local experiences, according to Ivana Bulatović, Director of EU Integration, International Funds, and Digitalization at the Ministry of Tourism.

The timely implementation of a visa-free regime has boosted short-term revenue from markets such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and China, which generate higher income per visitor than traditional markets.

Bulatović emphasized the need for precise data and a strategic approach to tourism development. The Ministry, in cooperation with the energy sector, is implementing an EU-backed project focused on green transition, which includes grants totaling €3.5 million to support hotels, rural households, and private accommodation providers to improve tourism offerings.

Energy efficiency in tourism will soon move from incentive-based measures to a legal requirement, marking a significant step in sustainable tourism development in Montenegro.
