The ferry line between Bar (Montenegro) and Bari (Italy) will resume on July 1, followed by the Bar-Ancona route starting July 8, operating for two months, announced Barska Plovidba. The Bar-Bari ferry line was discontinued nine years ago, in 2016, and there are current plans to purchase a ferry to reestablish regular connections with Italy.
During July and August, Montenegro will have maritime links to Italian ports.
Ćazim Alković, Chairman of Barska Plovidba’s Board, emphasized that the best solution is for the government to help buy a ferry, an investment that would quickly pay off due to the significant benefits and connectivity it brings. He noted that restarting a ferry line takes at least two to three years to become profitable.
Barska Plovidba is considering purchasing a ferry costing between €10 and €20 million, but this requires meeting infrastructure improvements and international regulations.
