The Montenegrin Parliament’s Committee for Economy, Finance, and Budget will hold a hearing with Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy, Nik Đeljošaj, on inflation in Montenegro and its impact on citizens’ living standards.
Boris Mugoša, Committee Chair, noted that in March the Committee had proposed measures to protect citizens from rising prices, but authorities have yet to provide adequate responses. Inflation in Montenegro is currently more than twice as high as in eurozone countries, and appropriate actions have not been taken.
Proposed measures include reducing VAT on fruit, vegetables, and potentially meat products, reviewing excise policies, increasing support for domestic production, strengthening the Agrobudget, and improving product visibility and pricing in retail chains. Monitoring price changes more transparently and reviewing costs along the import-distribution-retail chain are also recommended to ensure more affordable prices for consumers.
Mugoša emphasized that similar measures are being implemented in EU countries with lower inflation to protect citizens’ living standards.
