Medix has submitted the most favorable bid for preparing an Environmental Impact Assessment for the conceptual design of the fast road section from Herceg Novi to Budva, including a crossing over the Bay of Kotor.
The public tender, launched by Monteput on June 20, attracted five bids. Medix’s offer of €35,000 (€42,350 with VAT) was ranked first. The decision was announced on August 8, and bidders have 10 days to appeal.
The study will analyze two conceptual design options — one crossing via Verige and another via Luštica — as part of the planned coastal fast road from the Croatian to the Albanian border. Technical and economic evaluations identified options 2 and 4 as the most favorable, which will now be assessed for environmental impact to determine the optimal route.
Option 2 involves a crossing near Kumbor to Luštica via a bridge, followed by tunnels and viaducts, totaling about 52.4 km, with significant bridge (19.1 km) and tunnel (36.25 km) lengths.
Option 4 uses an underwater tunnel across the bay, then continues similarly to Option 2, totaling about 48.7 km, with 14.2 km of bridges and 37.36 km of tunnels.
Both options have a design speed of 100 km/h and include measures such as an additional lane on steep sections. The assessment will focus on environmental impacts along the segments directly affecting natural surroundings.
