The Montenegrin Employers’ Federation (UPCG) has announced that it expects the Constitutional Court to declare the decision to abolish Sunday work unconstitutional.

The Federation submitted an initiative for a constitutional review on this issue back in 2019.

“We hope the Constitutional Court will finally conclude this six-year process and determine that the measure represents an unconstitutional restriction of entrepreneurial freedom. The issue of Sunday work goes beyond the retail sector — it concerns the principles of a free market, legal certainty, and the predictability of the business environment,” UPCG stated.

They added that the public has witnessed the Federation’s efforts to initiate dialogue and reach agreements together with social partners — the Government and trade unions — to resolve this and other matters important for both employers and employees. “Such a constructive and responsible approach will not be absent this time either,” the statement concluded.
