Montenegrin Telekom has positioned itself as the undisputed leader in 5G technology in Montenegro, while at the EU and Deutsche Telekom levels, Montenegro has achieved high rankings for the speed and quality of its 5G implementation.

Just a few months after launching its 5G network commercially, Montenegrin Telekom set a new record by achieving gigabit speeds, a first in Montenegro.

The company also became the first operator in Montenegro to make 5G available to users across an entire city, with Podgorica becoming the first 5G city in Montenegro as early as July 2022. Within just six months of its commercial launch, coverage was extended to nearly 70% of Montenegro’s population.

Stjepan Udovičić, CEO of Montenegrin Telekom, announced the start of 5G transformation in Montenegro in March 2022, highlighting that Telekom was the first operator in Montenegro to launch 5G commercially, beginning with commercial base stations in Podgorica.

“For two years now, Montenegrin Telekom has had the largest and fastest 5G and 4G network in the country. Currently, we have about 83% coverage with 5G signal, and we have no plans to stop. The frequency resources we possess, including spectrum freed up by the shutdown of outdated 3G technology, ensure Telekom’s leading position in 5G and 4G networks in the coming years,” said Udovičić.

He noted that Telekom is also the only telecommunications operator in the country to have decommissioned the 3G network, redirecting spectrum, resources, and attention fully towards further developing 5G and 4G technology.

“In addition, to meet the necessary capacity for the increasing number of users and overall internet traffic in mobile and fixed networks, we are undergoing intensive modernization and expansion of our IP and Transport networks, which will enable superior user experience for all our services. This year’s projects, plans, and investments are ambitious, evidenced by the 20 million EUR we will invest in networks, platforms, and user experience this year,” Udovičić specified.

Seamless user experience is part of Telekom’s strategic priorities, resulting in increasingly frequent leadership positions in customer satisfaction according to surveys conducted by an independent, foreign agency using globally relevant methodologies.

Telekom’s 5G innovations have been quickly embraced by users, positioning Telekom ahead of competitors in terms of mobile network quality and internet speed for the past two consecutive years.

“As the first telecommunications operator to launch 5G, Telekom had the task of preparing the ground for this technological transformation in an educational and communicative sense. Prior to launching the 5G network, we informed users and the public about the benefits of 5G transformation through a series of campaigns, including panels and presentations. Last year, we launched an extremely successful educational campaign ‘5G for Beginners,’ starring actor Petar Strugar, which not only received awards but also achieved excellent results according to relevant metrics,” Udovičić stated.

He emphasized that Telekom has invested significant resources and effort, even supporting competitors in communication, enabling them to start their 5G activities without much explanation or debate in the public sphere.

“The 5G transformation confirms Telekom’s role in the market—we push boundaries, set challenges and trends for competitors, and deliver innovative solutions to the domestic market that align with the latest global telecommunications achievements,” concludes the statement.
