Internet access in Montenegro reaches 84.5% of households, reflecting significant growth

In Montenegro, a recent study by Monstat reveals that 84.5% of households have internet access at home, marking an increase of 4.2 percentage points compared to 2020.

According to the survey on the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in households, the percentage of households with internet access has grown over the past five years. This year, the figure rose from 80.3% to 84.5% compared to 2020.

Household internet access is facilitated through personal and portable computers, as well as mobile devices. The study found that 32.3% of respondents access the internet via personal computers, while 67.6% use portable devices like laptops, netbooks, and tablets.

When it comes to internet connection types, the majority of households, 84.8%, utilize fixed broadband connections. Meanwhile, 71.6% use mobile broadband, reflecting a 1.4 percentage point increase from the previous year.

Geographically, internet access is lowest in the northern region at 75%, while the southern region boasts the highest rate at 95.8%. Access in non-urban areas is recorded at 78.2%, compared to 87.6% in urban areas.

The survey indicated that 88.9% of respondents used the internet in the past three months, with 90.8% accessing it multiple times daily. The most common online activities for personal use included internet calling/video chats (98.3%), social media (88.7%), and reading or downloading online news or magazines (86%).

Additionally, 43.1% of respondents reported never having purchased or ordered goods or services online, while 56.9% indicated they had.
